Awards? Pish-Posh (But, Still . . .)

Ya'll know that I think the newspaper biz is ridiculously fixated on awards, as if it validates us among our peers at a time when the industry is in the toilet.

Nope, I'm not a fan of awards . . . but I'm also two-faced enough to promote it when we win them.

We received word Friday that Brian Trompeter, Kristen Armstrong and I each were honored by the Suburban Newspapers of America in its annual editorial contest. Kristen won for education writing, Brian for arts and entertainment coverage, and yours truly took home an award for a series of editorials on the Frank O'Leary-Bob James battle for Arlington treasurer.

So, heck, kudos to us!
